Psalm 23:6a Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.
The sheep with such a shepherd knows of a surety that his is a privileged position. No matter what comes, at least and always he can be perfectly sure that goodness and mercy will be in the picture. He reassures himself that he is ever under sound, sympathetic, intelligent ownership. What more need he care about? Goodness and mercy will be the treatment he receives from his master’s expert, loving hands. Not only is this a bold statement, but it is somewhat of a boast, an exclamation of implicit confidence in the One who controls his career and destiny. – A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by W. Phillip Keller, Pgs. 153-154
What an amazing blessing to know that our God’s wonderful goodness and unfailing mercy will follow us all the days of our lives. This is something to always rejoice in. Our Good and Loving Shepherd will never leave nor forsake us! He will always remain faithful to care for us, provide for all of our needs, guide us into all truth, give us His wisdom, and lead us in the way we should go. My prayer and encouragement is for you and I to abide and remain under the watchful eye and loving care of our Good Shepherd Who has called us by name and loves each of us with an everlasting love. As sheep, we are prone to wander which leads us astray and separated from our Master. So let’s remain extremely close to our God and wrap ourselves in His bosom which is filled with warmth, tenderness, love, care, and compassion.
We will all face trials and difficulties as we journey through this life, but as we abide in Him, He will give us His peace, grace, and wisdom for the road ahead. We are not alone! Even in our darkest storms, Yes even His goodness and mercy which can be referred to as His unfailing love, faithfulness, strength, grace, and mercy will follow us. God will never fail! Faithful, True, Everlasting to Everlasting, Jesus Christ stays the same.
In looking back over my own life, in the light of my love and care for my sheep, I can see again and again a similar compassion and concern for me in my Master’s management of my affairs. There were events which at the time seemed like utter calamities; there were paths down which He led me that appeared like blind alleys; there were days He took me through which were well nigh black as night itself. But all in the end turned out for my benefit and my well-being. – A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by W. Phillip Keller, Pg. 155
Rest and Trust in the Lord! He is good all the time and His mercies are new every morning.
Lamentations 3:22-23 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.
